Step into the role of a pollinator, where movement breathes life into a surreal fusion of nature and artifice. Bump into and engage with the flowers.

Motion reveals the hidden life of this hybrid landscape. Flowers sway in the breeze, shifting between levels of abstraction, echoing nature’s rhythms through the quiet pulse of a dreamlike meadow. As others sway the giant flowers, take a seat in the grass and absorb the unique environment. Translucent layers create a living tapestry of nature and code, where motion weaves unseen threads between physical space and virtual image. Organic and synthetic elements create a surreal, dreamlike atmosphere that feels like distant, perhaps even artificial, memories—reflecting on our connection to nature in an increasingly digitized world.

Synthetic Meadow was made in collaboration with projector artist, Rebecca Watkins for Portland Winter Light Festival, 2025. Comprised of 2 flower inflatables, 3 layered scrim projection screen, and 6 meadow stools.
